I am a Reading Interventionist and I serve children who struggle with reading and literacy from Kindergarten to 5th grade. These kids are some of the hardest-working people that I know, but they continue to struggle. I used the free YouTube videos this year, from Letters Alive, and the students loved it. They also really liked having the printed story to take home to their families. I believe if I could get this grant, and help them be more successful at an early age, they would not continue to struggle long term.

I would hope to accomplish that a child who struggles in Kindergarten would not continue to struggle in 5th grade. What a beautiful thing it would be if they could eventually “graduate out” of intervention.

I believe that the Letters Alive program would help me/us to close the gaps earlier and thereby allow the students to gain mastery of basic letter names and sounds and become more literate at a younger school age. I also think the cross-curricular link with science makes learning even more fun for the students, and they are therefore better engaged. They aren’t just learning letters and sounds, but they are also learning about animals, habitats, and life spans.
