Problem: Children who are not reading at grade level by the time they exit 3rd grade are 4x more likely to drop out of high school. If they also happen to be a child of color or living in poverty, they are 13x more likely to drop out. Today 74% of low-income children are NOT reading at grade level.

LitLab's Solution: We target low-income families and provide them access to the resources and support they need to ensure their children enter school ready and stay ready for academic success through the 3rd grade. In our program model, kidappolis Communities, we partner with social service nonprofits in a particular community who provide our kidappolis mobile app and bilingual books for free to the families they serve. Through the app families access a personalized playlist of learning activities and resources they can do at home with their children. They also receive text messages from our local partners promoting various free family events and resources including parent workshops, food pantries, job training, COVID-19 testing, and more.

In March when COVID-19 hit we saw an 800% increase in downloads for the kidappolis app overnight. Low-income families need home learning support and access to free resources to help stabilize their children now more than ever before. Even after vaccines are available these families will continue to struggle with longer term impacts of learning loss and economic instability.  This is why supporting our ability to increase FREE access to kidappolis, bilingual books, and our partners is so incredibly important right now.
