The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families is a faith-based non-profit that creates stronger, safer, and more prosperous families and communities by working to end father absence.

Engaged and responsible fathers are the key to solving many of today’s most challenging social problems, but fathers are often overlooked. That’s why for
more than 20 years we have been the voice for fathers and families and served as the hub of a growing statewide network of local organizations with the sole mission of educating men of all ages about what responsible fatherhood means. We:

  • promote policies that identify and eliminate barriers to responsible fatherhood,
  • provide the funding, curriculum, and framework to guide the work of a statewide network of fatherhood organizations so that they can offer community-based services that build the skills fathers need to be responsible and engaged, and
  • offer a nationally recognized model of evidence-informed fatherhood programs.

Since our founding, the Center has helped more than 20,000 fathers prepare to meet the material, emotional and spiritual needs of their children and families. Today, we are a nationally recognized expert in innovative and impactful program development, including Jobs Not Jail, an alternative to incarceration for non-payment of child support, and Reality Check, a bold and frank conversation with young men about the consequences of fathering children before they are ready.

Because of our work, fathers and children have been reconnected and family bonds strengthened so these children will no longer suffer the detrimental effects of father absence, including generational poverty and low education, and a higher likelihood of teen pregnancy, substance abuse, and early incarceration.

Families are stronger because we have helped bring mothers and fathers together and to respect the unique contributions, they each make to the health and well-being of their child.

We are all better because fathers make our communities stronger, more prosperous, and safer.
