The Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center (The MACC) is Sumner County's first arts museum of its kind and is an inspiring addition to the Greater Nashville's Arts and Museums community.

Our mission is to collect, preserve and interpret local and regional art, and present exhibits of regional, national and international importance. History, arts, education, and community will remain an ever-present commitment to the Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center.

The MACC is located in the beautiful historic mansion on Gallatin Road in Hendersonville. Formerly known as Hendersonville Arts Council, it is being transformed into a magnificent art gallery and museum, and is set to become a destination in the region for those interested in the visual and performing arts.

Monthaven was originally part of 640 acres granted to Henry Rule for service in the Revolutionary War. Built in the early 1800s and used as a Civil War field hospital, the mansion was named Liberty Hall when LB Fite took up residence after the war. In 1936, it was bought by Nashville businessman Mont Bliss Comer, becoming his “getaway” and quickly coined “Monts Haven.” After Mont’s death, his family remained in the mansion and sold it in the late 1980s to a development company who deeded the mansion to the city of Hendersonville to be used for the arts.

By April 2017, The MACC had new goals of presenting special exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists, continuing to grow the arts education programs, and maintaining the museum’s rich history and heritage.

Today Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center exists to create a vibrant art, educational, and cultural experience for people of all ages and to maintain Monthaven as a Historical Landmark.

With a new vision and re-branding on the horizon, The MACC is on the fast-track towards success of becoming Middle Tennessee’s premier gallery and museum destination.
