The Inspiration for Semi's BoriSQUAD! My name is Jose Bermudez. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I’m the youngest of three boys and since an early age I always loved playing sports. In school I played volleyball, basketball and baseball. Later, I graduated with honors in high school and later decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Anatomy with an Associate’s degree and a Certification in Massage Therapy from Parker University in Dallas, Texas.
In July, 2022, at age 33, I was diagnosed with MS. Like any other diagnosis, it was rough being able to accept this new phase of my life. My neurologist put me on a treatment plan and after a couple of months of questioning and doubts of what life would be from now on, I decided on a new approach. Dial in my focus on wellness, nutrition and exercise.
Since then I’ve been stable and taking charge of my journey! I discovered a new love for running and in the last two years I’ve participated in more than thirty races of 5k, 10k and half marathon distances.
My goal with every race I participate in, and especially the 4x4x24, is raising awareness that we’re more than a diagnosis. We can still participate in events like this and we can still compete at a high level. We all struggle differently with our own unique set of symptoms but we’re here. MS is not an identity it’s a diagnosis and I won’t let it define me. It’s only a part of my story and I strive to inspire those with or without MS that if I can do it, they can too.”
