GIVE FOR GOOD LOUISVILLE | SEPTEMBER 10, 2026
Join me in supporting Whitney/Strong.
Gun violence prevention is deeply personal to me.
I lost my cousin to firearm suicide. I am a survivor of domestic violence, and my adoptive daughter is a survivor of gun violence. These experiences have shaped the way I understand safety, trauma, survival, and prevention—and they're a huge part of why I am so proud to do this work every day with Whitney/Strong.
But they're also why I want people to understand something important:
Gun violence prevention isn't only about preventing homicides or mass shootings. It's about suicide prevention. It's about domestic violence. It's about keeping children safe. And sometimes, something as simple as how a firearm is stored can save a life.
In Ohio, nearly 60% of firearm deaths are suicides.
And research published in JAMA Pediatrics found that if just 20% of households with children that currently store firearms unlocked began locking all of their firearms, an estimated 72–135 youth firearm deaths and 235–323 youth shootings could be prevented in a single year.
Those aren't just statistics to me.
When I think about my cousin, I think about the importance of creating time and distance between a person experiencing a crisis and a lethal means.
When I think about my daughter and my own experiences, I think about how gun violence doesn't end when the immediate danger is over. Survivors and families can carry its impact for years.
That's why prevention matters.
Whitney/Strong turns prevention into action through safe firearm storage, suicide prevention, Stop the Bleed® training, community violence prevention, and responsible firearm ownership education.
So far, Whitney/Strong has distributed 17,500+ gun locks and trained 4,500+ people.
And September 10 makes this fundraiser especially meaningful.
Give for Good falls on World Suicide Prevention Day.
This year, I'm asking you to help me reach my personal fundraising goal of $250 for Whitney/Strong.
And your gift can go twice as far: every dollar donated can be matched, up to $25,000, thanks to The Bufford Family Foundation, helping Whitney/Strong reach its $50,000 Give for Good goal.
Whether you give $5, $25, $50, or more, you're helping put tangible prevention tools, education, and lifesaving resources into communities.
For my cousin.
For my daughter.
For survivors.
For families who deserve more time.
Different perspectives. Shared purpose.
Stronger Together.
