We aim to build meaningful healthy lives in a multigenerational inclusive autism informed community.

$14,410

raised by 57 people

Tim was 28 years old, living in his own apartment and working at a job when he got arrested for cutting the cords on the vacuum cleaners in his building for the second time.  Tim is autistic and is tortured by vacuum cleaner noise.  Because of his autism he can't  self advocate.  Ultimately Tim was evicted.

What if the manager understood autism?  Maybe they could have worked out a solution where they vacuumed when Tim was at work or warned Tim so that he could put on headphones.

What if Tim's neighbors had understood and could have advocated for him.

Our retirement age people need more living choices where they can make new friends, stay active and be a needed part of a community.  Many of our older Americans are living alone and struggle with boredom, loneliness, and depression.

We consider them the "opportunity generation."   Many are looking to learn something new, do something meaningful, and do it on their terms.

In multiple speaking engagements it is clear that our Opportunity Generation is ready to move in to a community where they can learn more about autism, appreciate their autistic community members and create new lives for themselves in retirement.

it is estimated that 20 to 40% of homeless people have autism, intellectual disability or both.  We aim to create a community that values each community member and builds understanding of differences fostering safe community integration for our vulnerable members.

We expect to eventually reach outside the primary community to the greater community to serve both our autistic people and our older Americans.

Imagine creation of the "All Day Cafe."  Only go to the community center for this if you have all day as it will be people with special needs learning how to wait on you as they are coached by a job coach, helping them to build skills for the greater community.

Our "Opportunity Generation" loves this idea!  Who could imaging that meeting friends for coffee at the community center could be meaningful service to your community?

We are delighted to be working with Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corps, a non-profit developer.   We recently visited Prairie Haus in New Glarus, WI that they built and opened 18 months ago reserving 10 of 40 units for autistic people.  it is a beautiful place to live and confirms our choice of developers to work with.  We anticipate a capital campaign in 2024.

Please give what you can.  There is a national as well as local shortage of suitable housing for both our loved ones with disabilities as well as suitable places for our retirement age folks to move into.

Maybe we can't change the world, but we can start with a community.
