Homelessness is a continuing crisis affecting Tempe residents, agencies, businesses, government, and the people who personally experience this difficulty.

Homelessness remains Tempe’s top human service priority, and based on the 2019 Point in Time Count, Tempe now holds the state’s 2nd highest volume and 2nd fastest-growing homeless population. 

The I-HELP model serves as a cost-effective and scalable solution for ending homelessness. The program has been replicated many times and uses several best practices and the Financial Success Center to improve the economic status and self-sufficiency of homeless men and women.

As the homeless population continues to rise, in turn, the volume of affected people unable to access services is also rising. This is due to the inadequate shelter and affordable housing beds in Tempe and limited capacity of existing programs. 

Unquestionably, housing is the single most effective solution to ending homelessness. In the absence of an adequate supply of affordable housing, shelter remains a vital resource to prevent loss of life and provide the necessary “bridge” resources to stabilize and prepare individuals to transition out of homelessness.

Sponsor one man or woman as they journey from homelessness to independence: $800

The I-HELP shelter program not only provides a safe place to sleep, but also a spectrum of services to prepare men and women for employment, financial stability, and permanent housing. Take advantage of the Arizona charitable tax credit at the same time! 

Sponsor one night of shelter and additional services for a man or woman in need: $35

TCAA asking your help to ensure that people who are homeless have an alternative to life on the street. Last year the I-HELP Shelter program assisted 372 adults, but sadly, close to 200 others were turned away primarily due to lack of space.

HOW YOUR FUNDS ARE USED 

• Intensive case management and resource navigation services 
• Securing important identification documents
• Preparing for employment
• Accessing bus and light rail passes
• Enrolling in public benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, and Veterans’ services
• Addressing health concerns including primary care, mental health, and substance abuse treatment
• Locating permanent housing
• Housing entry costs including application costs
• Program supplies

Remember that when you make your gift to TCAA, you can receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your AZ state return. Up to $400 for individuals and $800 for those filing jointly.
