Update #2

Update posted 1 month ago
Shawn was officially approved for the kidney transplant today! Not an April Fool’s joke! He should be listed on UNOS for the combined liver and kidney transplant surgeries by the end of the day, and hopefully they will have a match for him very soon. Great news :)

The world needs Shawn Wehking here! He is an amazing person, loving husband, wonderful cat dad, brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend. He is a Lieutenant in the Navy Reserve and a Merchant Mariner. He has been in the military and a civilian Department of Defense employee since 2015. He has been awarded a Purple Heart from a military incident that he survived in Africa, he is so brave! He is a brilliant engineer, sweet soul, giving, funny and witty, and caring of everyone he comes into contact with. Shawn desperately needs a full liver transplant at only 31 years young, it is such a heart wrenching situation. He is currently in the ICU awaiting a liver transplant at one of the nation’s top transplant medical centers in the country, so he is exactly where he needs to be right now, but it is very expensive. Shawn loves Pokémon, gaming, yoga, macaroni and cheese, playing with his two cats (Olive and Yuki), tattoos, and the beach. He lives in Saint Petersburg, FL, which is about 2.5 hour drive from the transplant hospital. All of his family (and potential caregivers) live out of state. We have a dire need for financial support due to travel and lodging/relocation expenses. He (and his wife, Brittany) will be out of work for the foreseeable future. He financially supports not only himself, but also his wife and cute cat babies. This situation has changed drastically since he fell ill. Shawn is fighting for his life to have a second chance to help continue to make a mark on this world and make the world a better place. In order for him to become a success story, he needs any kind of assistance you can provide, including financially. He will have to find a new career after transplant due to the nature of his work not being an environment conducive of an organ transplant recipient, if he is ever well enough to work again. He needs around the clock care. Shawn needs a stable, safe, clean and comforting place to call home when he leaves the hospital is imperative. Everyone who meets Shawn knows he gives the best hugs! We want Shawn to recover so that he can give more hugs and share more love with the world! He might be a complete stranger to you reading this, and if so, please know that anything you donate is going to help this awesome man stay awesome for many many years to come (if all goes well :)). Shawn has done so much over the past 9 years to contribute to keeping our country safe with his military work, with so much selflessness to help complete strangers just because that is the kind of person he is. Please repay the favor back to Shawn now, in his time of need, so that he can recover and shine his smile and energy upon everyone. Please, we are begging you, to contribute anything you can and/or are able to assist with. We appreciate all good vibes, prayers, and well wishes! Shawn does not like to ask for help like this, but in these dire and unfortunate circumstances it has become necessary. He and family appreciate any support you can provide. Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know Shawn and his situation. Much love to you.
