Transplant Type: Heart

Russ Lopez is fighting for his life. In December 2016, he was diagnosed with heart failure. This came as a shock, as there is no family history of heart disease. His condition leaves him very tired and impacts his quality of life. Doctors say a heart transplant is critical to his survival, and Russ was added to the transplant waiting list in February 2018.

During this difficult time, Russ is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Shawna. They have three children ages 26, 18, 12, and two grandsons. Russ’ family and friends have been so supportive of his struggle, but they all worry about his health. Russ looks forward to receiving a transplant that will restore his health and give him back his life. His constant fatigue prevents him from being the active husband, father, and grandfather he longs to be. Russ wants nothing more than to feel like himself again and be able to take part in family activities. But right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Russ' hope for a new life comes at a very high price. 

The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million. And, that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Russ lost his job due to his health issues, further adding to his financial strain.
