Dear Friends and Family, 

My name is Robert Green and I am writing to you as a grateful heart and kidney recipient, who received a life-changing transplant. I am reaching out to ask for your support as I raise money to support my medical bills, temporary housing to be near the transplant center for up to 3 months, and prescription costs. 

Allow me to share my story with you briefly. I’m a husband to a truly astonishing wife, father of five amazing children and grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. I’m retired and on a fixed income. My family has been my rock through this process and God has guided and supported me through many tough times of my life. But it wasn’t until December of 2023 that all faith was tested, my health took a severe downturn when I was diagnosed with end-stage heart and kidney failure. My world was turned upside down, and the hope of leading a normal life filled with many more family adventures and memories seemed to fade away. Each day became a battle against fatigue, pain, and uncertainty, as my heart and kidneys struggled to perform their vital functions. However, thanks to the generosity and selflessness of an organ donor, God, and the extraordinary medical and support staff at Kaiser and Cedar Sinai, I was fortunate enough to receive both a heart and kidney transplant in March of 2024.

What if you were living on borrowed time?  

I recently partnered with the National Foundation for Transplant (NFT) to assist me in my fundraising efforts.  NFT supports people like me and serves as a beacon of hope for patients and their families grappling with the staggering costs of life-saving organ transplants for over 40 years. NFT's unwavering commitment to easing the financial burden of transplantation has restored hope to individuals who would have otherwise been faced with insurmountable medical expenses while their lives are being saved. 

Your donation will directly contribute to my transplant expenses and the organization's mission, allowing NFT to continue changing lives and fostering a brighter future for those in need. By providing critical financial assistance to transplant recipients, NFT ensures that members can focus on their recovery rather than the mounting bills. The incredible impact of NFT cannot be overstated.  

Unfortunately, transplanting a vital organ comes at a very high price. 

The average transplant can range from $400,000 to over $1 million. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, transplant recipients still face significant medical expenses related to the surgery. Post-surgery they will require lifetime follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they are as important to survival as the transplant itself.  

Many patients must also travel long distances to their transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. Patients are also often required to stay close to the hospital immediately following their procedure, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.

National Foundation for Transplants is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for people for me. The National Foundation for Transplants has been assisting transplant patients with advocacy and fundraising support for 40 years.
