$5,000 goal

Pounds of Care/MOCA is collaborating with Westside Wood Works to renovate existing homes and bring affordable new homes to the West side in Montgomery, Alabama.

The initial “gateway” home project will be to cosmetically refresh and upgrade existing homes, as well as build 10-12 affordable new single family homes.

In addition to building new homes, Westside Wood Works will teach all aspects of rehabbing houses including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing HVAC, framing, drywall installation, and tile work.  The collaboration will provide infrastructure and assist this underserved community by also helping small businesses located in that area by building new homes, hiring neighborhood contractors and workers. The program’s three fold plan is job/creation/workforce advancement, achieving measurable financial goals, and ultimately ownership of newly built homes.

The campaign funds will help purchase the necessary material and equipment to start the renovations and the building of the new homes. Funds will also be used to purchase a space where the panels can be built for the homes. This space will also be used as the training facility where Westside Wood Works can teach men and women a life long skill of rehabbing homes.
