This two-week course is designed to assist foster, and former foster, youth prepare for adulthood by teaching them essential skills and helping them obtain abilities they need to provide for themselves and their families. After the initial course each youth is assigned a case manager and mentor to meet with them monthly for 24 months to set life goals and assist with obtaining those goals and act as an ongoing support system as they transition into adulthood.

Statistically, children who age out of foster care have an extremely high risk of homelessness, unemployment, incarcerated and pregnancy before age 21.

Paving the Way assists foster and former foster youth in obtaining birth certificate, social security card, driver’s license, education, employment and housing. These services are vital to ensuring these youth don’t end up homeless, unemployed or incarcerated, which is a statistical probability for these at-risk youth.
