Brandie Engles

Transplant Type: Double Lung

Update: Brandie received a transplant on December 3, 2019!

Brandie Engles is awaiting a new lease on life. When she was only seven-years-old, she was diagnosed with bronchiectasis, and at twelve, both lungs collapsed. At that time, doctors discovered she also had common variable immune deficiency. Although her condition was stable for several years, recently her immune system has weakened and caused an increase in infections that have led to respiratory failure. Brandie now requires the use of supplemental oxygen to help her breathe. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to her survival

.During this difficult time, Brandie is thankful for the love and support of her husband, John, and their family and friends. Brandie and John have three daughters, ages 15, 18, and 20. Brandie’s illness has caused her to be hospitalized a lot over the past five years, and she has missed out on family gatherings. She looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save her life and allow her to breathe freely. She enjoys hiking, camping, and boating, but her health prevents her from doing most activities now. Brandie wants nothing more than to be healthy so she will be free from oxygen tanks and have many more years with her family. But right now, she needs your help.

The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Brandie lives four hours from her transplant center, and traveling back and forth can be expensive. Once she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Brandie’s declining health prevents her from working, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Brandie. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Brandie Engles” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
