From Darkness Into Light

The Arizona Masterworks Chorale has been performing since 1979, serving both a broad, diverse audience that enjoys great choral music and the singers who live to perform it.  We perform innovative and enjoyable concerts at venues throughout the greater Phoenix area to bring the joy of music we feel to the entire community.  

The arts are suffering in the COVID pandemic: performers can't perform, audiences can't attend. But that doesn't mean we're standing still.  As a community resource for over 40 years, we're working hard to reassure everyone in the Phoenix area that we haven't forgotten them, and that there's much to look forward to.  Our updated vision and leadership, and our artistic growth, will attract new audiences as well as choristers, soloists, and instrumentalists who want to be part of the exciting future with us.

We'll use the pandemic-mandated hiatus to refresh out artistic and business operations and emerge stronger than ever, focusing on three goals:

-- A new artistic director to provide re-energized vision and leadership to the Chorale

-- Retaining current Chorale members by involving them in artistic and organizational growth, and recruiting talented new singers looking for a great performing environment 

-- Refreshing and updating our repertoire, including finding or commissioning new choral works that speak to hope for the future

We need your help to accomplish these goals, and to invest in us.  Please give generously to support our work and ensure we have the resources to meet the challenges ahead.

Some details on what we want to accomplish in the remainder of the 2020-21 season:

Goal 1: Recruit and engage a new artistic director to provide re-energized leadership to the Chorale

AMC has consulted nationally-known choral conductors to assist a search committee in finding a visionary conductor and artistic leader for our fifth decade of performance. AMC's by-laws, job descriptions, board membership, and operational activities will be updated to support the search and help attain our vision. Our current music library will be refreshed to focus on works valuable to us and our audience.  We will reach out to underserved populations in the Phoenix community that may not have had the opportunity to hear great choral music.

Goal 2: Recruit talented singers looking for a great artistic environment and those whose prior organizations may have closed.

 From a pre-pandemic core of experienced singers AMC seeks to grow in all voices by adding talented and experienced artists looking for an atmosphere of high artistic standards and achievement. We'll provide a new opportunity for singers whose prior groups may have disbanded as a result of the pandemic.

 Goal 3: Find or commission new choral works that speak to hope for the future after an enforced time of isolation.

 Emerging from enforced isolation will be a great inspiration not only to AMC singers but to composers and arrangers as well. AMC will expand our classic repertoire with these new works, and will seek out local composers for a potential commission unique to our community.
