Gloria Max, our Executive Director that recently passed, always said "Thanksgiving is one unifying tradition that all Americans can share, regardless of their race, origin, or religion." This year we are still facing the negative effects of the coronavirus, recovering from a year of uncertainty, as well as the current inflation that is adding economic pressure to the vulnerable in our community.
Thanksgiving is a time when people truly want to be with their families and share a traditional holiday meal. During the holidays we usually provide 300 to 400 economically disadvantaged families with 15 to 20 pound turkeys, stuffing, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, bread, pumpkin pies, fresh produce, such as carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, oranges, apples and salads, and other grocery items.
Before Gloria passed she wanted us to make sure that we continued to provide this important service. Please join us in making sure that we can help families, struggling during these difficult times, enjoy a nice holiday, too.
We are having a lot of new families come to our food bank and with the rising prices and supply chain problems, we hope we will be able to at least the same number this year. Having your support will help!
Our Food Bank helps people in need regardless of their race or religion and, in fact, 98 percent of our clients are not Jewish. One hundred percent of donations go directly to purchase food because the Jewish Federation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, pays all administrative costs.
