Help India Home to establish the first ever Coliving home in Queens, New York for South Asian seniors! Coliving is a community living shared housing model. Those in a coliving household live with friends and community members, or have shared housing for multi-generational families with similar values. Individuals share common spaces such as a kitchen, living and dining room, have their own private bedroom and either a private or shared bathroom. This style of living combats social isolation and helps support a purpose driven life.
India Home was created as a safeguard to address social isolation in South Asian seniors and inequities in conventional senior services. We understand the way systems in place play a part in social isolation, and recognize the need for equitable housing to not only increase social connectedness, but improve health outcomes for South Asian seniors. With the troubling past year that this community has faced, there has never been more of a need for this model to be established.
We have SIGNED THE CONTRACT on a property in a prime location in Floral Park, Queens brimming with potential to establish this Coliving Home! This is a four bedroom single-family house, with spacious rooms where 4-6 seniors would be able to live. The property is in an area accessible to public transportation with houses of worship also being in close proximity. Residents will be living with friends and community members with similar lifestyles and interests. The home will be fully equipped with amenities and supported by India Home staff support to facilitate the project and ensure residents access the resources they need.
We are beyond excited at how close we are to making this much needed project for seniors in Queens a reality. But we need your help to get there.
We need to close on this property as soon as possible to move forward with the project. However, in order for India Home to meet the down payment for the acquisition, we need to raise at least $50,000 on this campaign. Please, help our seniors have the dignified living space they deserve. Donate this Giving Season and share with your networks if you believe in our project!
We hope we can count on you to help make this trailblazing project for our community a reality!
