Economic Mobility Coalition (EMC) Racial Equity Partnership Project

United Way of Central Ohio is raising money for the Economic Mobility Coalition's (EMC) Racial Equity Partnership Project.  EMC is composed of leaders from the health and human services sector who are committed to eliminating poverty in central Ohio.   EMC members believe that striving for racial equity must be a community priority that begins with awareness and education.  To this end, EMC created the Racial Equity Partnership.  The vision for this partnership is to change the narrative about poverty by increasing the use of racial equity as a critical component of our community's decision-making. The Racial Equity Partnership will provide racial equity training and engagement to more than 5,000 people over the next year.  The partnership will offer continuous racial equity training and learning exchanges for staff, board members, other volunteers, key partners and clients of health and human service organizations throughout Franklin County.

EMC leadership will initiate the following steps to impact racial equity throughout Franklin County:

1. Provide racial equity training sessions with consistent curriculum and shared language across training cohorts, based on content developed by The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, an interdisciplinary research institute at The Ohio State University.

Goal: Host at least 60 one-day training sessions per year to help participants better understand racism in its institutional/structural forms and develop personal action plans for overcoming bias.

2. Develop a local network of racial equity facilitators trained by The Kirwan Institute.

Goal: Build and maintain a network of up to 30 regional facilitators.

3. Facilitate learning exchanges to provide ongoing education and opportunities to connect with others across training cohorts.

Goal: Host at least three learning exchanges per year.

4. Recognize participation and efforts to impact racial equity at individual and organizational levels.

Goal: Publicly recognize and celebrate organizations and individuals.
