The Topeka Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is the place where the community gathers to pursue all sorts of artistic endeavors, such as main-stage live theater and music productions, youth educational programming in the arts..  The Sheffel School-time Theater provides free live art performance classes for children K-12.  Third graders attend workshops on theater arts--acting, costuming, etc.  A master class in theater performance exposes high school students to area professionals.

In most years about 75,000 people would attend events at TPAC. About 60 percent of those would attend community events, such as local dance recitals, ballets, graduations, weddings,  thus showing the importance of the facility to the Topeka area community.

However, early in 2020, TPAC had to close its doors because of the corona virus pandemic, reopening only to events with a limited capacity to fit within community health guidelines.  Fewer than 10,000 people attended events at TPAC in 2020.

By July 2021 the theater was returning to a more normal schedule with new or rescheduled bookings and a sense of enthusiasm that live music and theater were returning to Topeka.
