Our mission is to support their social, recreational, educational, referral, and advocacy needs, helping them achieve and maintain an independent lifestyle. We offer services to more than 1,000 legally blind residents in the region, with the help of a committed team of volunteers who assist with activities, reading, clerical work, and transportation.

The Center of the Blind, established in 1972 by Marjorie Heath, a blind woman who recognized the need for social and recreational opportunities among the blind and visually impaired, is dedicated to serving southeastern Connecticut's blind and visually impaired community.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely on private contributions, donations, fundraising efforts, and grants to continue our work.
