The Disaster Relief Program
Our commitment to aiding victims and their communities impacted by natural disasters
The SOS Disaster Relief Program delivers life-saving medical and health supplies to the victims of catastrophic weather events. Our model of responsible donations ensures that we are meeting identified needs and providing aid ready to deploy into the community quickly. From Haiti to Eastern Kentucky, SOS has provided medical supplies to treat the injured and ensure access to medical care through recovery. SOS remains committed to communities impacted beyond recovery and through the rebuilding process.
SOS is committed to making sustainable change happen in our local neighborhoods of Louisville & So. Indiana, and across the state of Kentucky. In 2018, SOS created the Local Health Program, a comprehensive initiative that supports the delivery of education, job-skills training and medical care, key drivers in advancing community health. In a large-scale collaboration effort with over 200 partners who serve the poorer areas of our city and state, this dynamic program has grown our impact by 70% every year and in 2021 contributed over $2 million in critical medical supplies and equipment, providing the resources to advance health and education in underserved areas, with a laser focus on residents in West and South Louisville. This impact makes a real, substantial difference in the lives of residents, with health of over 100,000 individuals impacted directly every year.
Local Health Program Impact per Year:
SOS International Health impacts over 106 countries outside the U.S. by sending an average of 100+ shipments per year of critical medical supplies and equipment to overseas medical partners serving families, children and the elderly in poverty-sticken and war-torn communities. The international team works directly with the recipient organizers and medical staff, equipping each shipment with critical and life-saving medical and human welfare supplies and equipment from obstetrics to orthopedics to general surgery.
