Solar Austin’s mission is to accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy in Central Texas and to expand access to the benefits of solar to everyone to mitigate climate change, create a healthy community, and support a strong local economy.
We all feel the effects of climate change. One of the fastest ways to act is to decarbonize our energy use by promoting solar across communities. Support our efforts in raising $25,000 as part of the A Community Thrives initiative so we can be a more vocal leader for greater and faster adoption of solar across all the neighborhoods in Central Texas.
Currently, there is a need for a larger labor force that is diversified and representative of the communities it serves.
In 2019, we created our main initiative - the Equitable Clean Energy Jobs program, in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University (Austin's oldest HBCU) and local solar companies. This pilot program was made possible through a grant from the city of Austin. We had a very successful year and, understanding the value of this program to Austinites, and other cities in Texas, we would like to transition this pilot into a permanent Solar Austin program offering. We look for your donation to help us keep our Program Manager and execute a new, long-lasting "Pathways to Clean Energy Careers" program, starting this fall!
With your support, we can foster a healthy 21st-century community by connecting business leaders, government institutions, universities, and our neighbors to:
Educate the youth and homeowners on solar energy, EV's and installation incentives
Elevate college students of underserved communities who want to participate in the Green Economy
Mentor companies on gaining a more diversified labor force
Improve energy resiliency for underserved communities
Install solar systems at community centers and common areas
Promote more ambitious, climate-friendly policies for the State of Texas
