Pretty Purposed

Pretty Purposed is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to empowering girls, ages 9-14, through mentorship and activities that promote healthy physical, social, and emotional development. Established in 2015, the organization has provided weekly and biweekly activities through its afterschool and community based programming to girls residing in Petersburg, Sussex, and the surrounding areas of Colonial heights, Dinwiddie, and South Chesterfield.  In addition to providing programming that utilizes social emotional education through a trauma informed lens, Pretty Purposed is committed to building resiliency and providing safe spaces where girls can glow and grow. 

Some of the activities that program participants engage in are:

STEAM, entrepreneurship, career development, financial literacy, healthy cooking, gardening,  physical fitness and hygiene, arts & cultural based field trips, peer pressure, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and more. 

A typical session begins with an icebreaker or teambuilder, followed by the session lesson, concluding with reflection, journaling, and sharing. During the 2019-2020, Pretty Purposed served over 60 girls, and provided over 850 hours of mentoring. 

Donating to Pretty Purposed provides engaging programming for the girls of today, who will become the leaders of tomorrow.
