OAR of Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church

Founded in 1974, OAR of Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church is a community-based nonprofit which envisions a safe and thriving community where those impacted by the legal system enjoy equal civil and human rights. Our mission includes upstream (social justice) and downstream (social services) work. 

OAR is a Collective, non-dominant, decolonizing, pro-Black, racially just, radically joyful, deeply loving, come as you are,  liberated organization that puts participants first. We center authentic and fully engaged relationships with all members of the OAR community.

Through our Upstream work, we confront and dismantle racism in the legal system, across all systems, and in ourselves. We lift the voices of those who’ve experienced racism and other intersecting forms of marginalization. Our work challenges those who’ve benefited from systemic racism to become leaders in eliminating these injustices and redressing the harm caused by personal racism.

Our Downstream work allows us to be on the journey with individuals of all genders returning to the community from incarceration and support their families in the homecoming process and offer alternative sentencing options to youth and adults including community service and a new diversion program.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT OAR FOR #GIVINGTUESDAY 2023

This year for GivingTuesday we are raising funds to support OAR's direct services programs. OAR is on the journey with hundreds of participants each year who are  returning to the community from experiencing incarceration and their families. Your donations will help provide food, clothing, transportation, assistance finding housing, medical care, internet access, phones with data plans, laptops, debt repayment, assistance with childcare costs, mental health resources/support, and other necessities for OAR participants and their families. Help us journey with these individuals as they work to secure a safe reentry for themselves.
