Basic Philosophy of Clothing Voucher and Success Institute Programming Services:

My Sister’s Closet is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established to build a stronger community by promoting economic self-sufficiency with professional attire, support services & essential career developmental tools for success.  Since 1998, My Sister’s Closet has been assisting impoverished and at-risk women move beyond significant hardships and economic disparity.  In general, the women we serve are experiencing/overcoming significant obstacles such as: homelessness, joblessness, domestic violence, illness and displacement. It is our goal to provide them with vital empowerment tools while assisting them in an environment of compassion and wisdom.  We have had great success in this endeavor and have encouraged many women to take control and change their life trajectories.

For those impoverished in our community, the lack of appropriate interview clothing, training, and education are significant barriers to successfully finding employment. By providing short term tools to meet these needs, a woman can present herself credibly, confidently and professionally; significantly increasing her chances of getting hired and maintaining a position.  If used properly, this assistance can positively impact someone’s ability to move out of poverty and move further along the road toward self-sufficiency.  My Sister’s Closet addresses these economic and educational needs by providing free services, such as:

  1. Interview Attire & Image Consulting:  Using fashion and image consultants as tools for professional development
  2. Success Institute training addressing:
    *  Financial Literacy
    *  Interview and Life Skills  Training
    * Job Search, Resume Construction  & Application Training, and
    *  Empowerment & Safety workshops, and
    *  Comprehensive mentoring and advocacy services, and
    *  English immersion
  3. Ready-2-Work: A classroom led, 8-week paid, pre-apprenticeship training program teaching 21st Century transferable job skills.

MSC’s programming is designed to change the status of women living in poverty; to help them find sustainable employment in jobs that will allow them to provide brighter futures for their children. Our skilled advocates and mentors help them with services designed to remarket themselves to potential employers, so they are seen as credible, reliable, and professional job candidates. MSC helps under-served, determined and courageous women take critical steps to make their dreams a reality.
