Mooresburg Community Association (MCA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides much needed services to older and disabled adults in rural Hawkins County, TN, enabling them to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible and avoid unnecessary moves to long-term care facilities.  Established in 2001, MCA’s mission is to fight hunger, eradicate food insecurity and promote healthy eating by providing our home-delivered meals program, Meals in the Hills. The program works to decrease social isolation and loneliness while ensuring the health of our residents in Mooresburg providing an array of services to improve the quality of life and health equity of its residents and benefits community wellness. MCA is committed to identifying and serving low-income residents who live on the fringes with limited access to resources, particularly healthy food.

  • Our Meals in the Hills program serves an average of 2000 meals a month. Meals are freshly prepared and delivered 5 days a week.
  • Our food pantry provides nonperishable and canned goods to families in Mooresburg and surrounding areas on a monthly basis.
  • Our medical transport program provides door to door transportation to doctors appointments. We provide 5-10 rides each month.
  • We provide assistance with applications for heating assistance, Food Stamps, TennCare, and other state and local social programs.
  • Our Friends and Family Thrift Store is also located on-site to support our community through taking donations and being an affordable option for individuals in need.

Mooresburg Community Center reopened in 2021 after remaining safe and healthy during the COVID crisis. Our volunteers and recipients maintained strict protocols and meals were prepared and delivered every day during the pandemic.

MCA applies for and receives grant funding to enable us to continue and expand our services. We have been providing nonperishable food pantry bags to individuals that come to our center in need. Our Medical Transport Program is a vital service; we pick up our seniors at their door, bring them to their appointment, stay with them and bring them back to their home, no waiting, no fee, no hassle. Some appointments require traveling to Knoxville or Johnson City.  When funding is available for Pet Food Programs for Older Adults, MCA provides pet food to our meals recipients.

George Dean, a 92 year old veteran, says “that community center has been an inspiration to my soul.  My boy and I watch for them every day, we know it is an assurance we aren’t going to go hungry.” Mr. Dean is only one of the people whose lives “remain intact” through the Meals in the Hills program.  Without the MCA, the meals and other services would cease to exist. George Dean passed away in December of 2018, but we feel that he is still with us.

Your gift will help us achieve our goals on behalf of the older adults in East Tennessee!
