Our Mission

Community building is at the core of our mission: Kings Valley Community Trust holds and cares for community assets to create public spaces for rural education and community building.  

By protecting these assets and adding to them as opportunities arise, the Trust ensures that our rural unincorporated area has the public facilities and lands that are essential to keep our residents educated, supported, and connected.

Our Community

The Kings Valley Community Trust serves the rural unincorporated area of Kings Valley, Oregon, as well as other rural residents who live near our area. Our rural community has an estimated population of around 400 residents.  Many of our residents are farmers and others commute to nearby towns for work. Our area also includes many people who are retired.  Incomes vary but many of our residents live on incomes near or below the poverty level, as is the case in much of rural Oregon.

Our History

The Kings Valley Community Trust was formed in 2013 to purchase our rural school property from the area school district, which was threatening to close the school due to low enrollment. The school has been in operation since 1848. The Trust and the school district reached an agreement for the Trust to take over ownership of the school grounds, but that vision quickly expanded when more opportunities arose.

Because of the Trust’s mission and acquisitions, our community now has:

• a thriving preK-12 rural school (serving 200 students) where our children have local access to a high quality education with an emphasis on hands-on learning, and where community residents volunteer
• a community hall where our residents can attend events, socialize, and support each other, as well as rent out for their own special occasions
• a 10-acre parcel of land next to the school that will soon have facilities for an agricultural program at the school, where our local farmers can share their expertise with the students
•  a house next to the school that will be remodeled into a Family Center, to support and connect our families with young children 

Our "Together for Luckiamute Meadows" Capital Campaign

Now the Kings Valley Community Trust has the opportunity of a lifetime to purchase Luckiamute Meadows, a 155-acre nature and agricultural preserve in the heart of our rural community. The preserve is right next door to our rural school and our community hall.
