Hawai‘i Five-2 Consortium

A nonprofit organization

Each of us possesses the capacity to make a marked difference in this world.  At its best, it was exemplified by the relief provided to so many from the challenges of the pandemic that recently paralyzed the entire globe: a trial that continues to test the fragility or stability of the foundations we have built our daily existence upon.  Quite a number of us witnessed, and even personally experienced, adversity as well as benevolence.   All in all, it remains positively sobering to see so many good-for-nothings:  People doing good and expecting nothing in return.

The A Community Thrives campaign is such an avocation.  The Gannett Foundation is sharing its strength to help raise awareness of organizations that were created to make a difference.  All of us can participate. To help discover your role, simply ask:

The following project was conceived from the aforementioned questions.  Our hope is that it will inspire you to join us in the practice of “Good-for-Nothing” behavior as we all do our part to make this world a better place.

Aloha and Welcome to the

Hawai‘i Five-2 Consortium

Many remain unaware of the fact that most of our 50th state’s food supply is sourced from other places, not its own remarkably fertile land. Positioned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the island state of Hawai‘i is actually one of the most isolated landmasses on the globe: a place where, for many years, commercial food industries dominated both agricultural land and water resources.

This resultant lack of food sovereignty for its citizenry is compounded for those who are also challenged by food insecurity.  The Islands of Aloha are just one major shipping snafu and/or natural disaster away from avoidable chaos.

To help assuage this scenario, the Hawai‘i Five-2 Consortium was formed.  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to “Feed the hungry and help those in trouble”, within the state of Hawai‘i.  Our goal is that the food bank entities and schools that service our 50th state also benefit from its incredibly rich agricultural and climate resources via state-of-the-art crop production advancements: Providing premium fresh, healthy produce for some of its most challenged constituency.

To accomplish this, we seek to introduce modern greenhouse technologies.  Through the use of indoor growing environments ideally suited to the Hawaiian Islands, the result will be a more bountiful and sustainable approach toward addressing the state’s food insecurity and sovereignty paradox.  This design will employ minimal resource and land usage while providing maximum year-round economic viability, productivity, and quality.

Support of this solution-filled model is a positive sum game for the state of Hawai‘i:  A tangible reflection of the spirit of aloha, which is its ultimate purpose.  Just imagine the improvement in the overall quality of life by helping to waylay preventable diet-based problems through the consistent provision of nutritional options. For where many entities grow food primarily for retail sale, and may glean or opt to give back, the Hawai‘i Five-2 Consortium will grow to give: serving as a “direct deposit” greenhouse-to-foodbank conduit expressly oriented to help assist those  in need.  We cannot, however, do it alone.  So, this consortium joyfully welcomes the assistance of others who desire to join our quest to put some good back into the world.  For it will be through the concerted, diligent, and generous efforts of a few that everyone will prosper.

Please, share your strength by donating what you are able.  In turn, the Hawai‘i Five-2 Consortium will strive to do all that it can to not only help the Hawaiian community thrive, but, more importantly, become healthier and hunger-free.  You GIVE, we GROW, everyone GAINS.

We sincerely hope that you will give generously as:

May you receive a double-portion return on all that you share.
