Homelessness and housing insecurity are not merely conditions of living; they are crises of survival. The struggle for basic necessities—healthcare, food, and supplies—is a daily battle for many. Harvest912 recognizes that without addressing these fundamental needs, we cannot hope to offer a path to stability and dignity. As a 100% volunteer organization, we have consistently delivered critical services and built a reputation for reliability and impact. Our mission-driven approach ensures that every dollar and every effort is focused on fostering a community where everyone has access to the essentials of life.
Harvest912 provides free foot care and new footwear to individuals in Erie who are impacted by homelessness, housing insecurity or severe economic need. We began in the fall of 2020 by delivering backpacks stocked with new boots, socks, foot care kits, hygiene items and other necessities to individuals at shelters in downtown Erie. However, we very quickly realized that foot care was a critical and unmet need for this community - one thing we consistently hear from our guests is "when your feet hurt, everything hurts!". Foot care and properly fitting footwear are essential when walking is your primary mode of transportation and our clinic guests have expressed great appreciation and satisfaction with the care at our clinics-many attend regularly for care and have reported greatly improved foot health.
From our modest beginning, Harvest912 has grown rapidly and has become a trusted ally for those facing the day-to-day challenges of homelessness. The need for services for our unhoused neighbors only continues to increase in our community and across the country. Harvest912 is continually exploring ways to expand our outreach both Erie as well as through satellite chapters around the country. Our newest local outreach is M.I.C. (Missing In Community). M.I.C. is focused on outreach to Veterans living outside of the traditional shelter systems, often in encampments. M.I.C.'s goal is to bring some basic necessities to these veterans to help make their daily lives just a bit better, while building trust and connecting them with the services and agencies that may be able to help them reintegrate into the community.
In addition to providing access to foot care and basic
necessities through our mobile clinics and encampment outreach, we also
distribute healthy meals both to encampment residents and to guests at our foot care clinics. The heart of our mission is simple yet profound: to nourish
both body and soul. For those living in encampments, survival items like
nourishing food and warm clothing are sometimes a matter of life and death; and for clinic guests who may have temporary
shelter, a food desert exists that our outreach meals help to fill. In addition,
genuine, ongoing personal interactions
that acknowledge the dignity and worth of our clinic guests and camp residents
are also a vital part of building trust and creating momentum towards a more
stable situation.
