For Kids Foundation

Our Mission: Since 2003, For Kids Foundation fills in the gaps created by other programs to fund urgent medical, dental, psychological/wellbeing, and educational products/services for Northern Nevada children (from birth to age 21) when there is no other known financial resource available. 

Our Vision: Provide or align resources so every child can thrive.

Why We Need Your Help: COVID continues to upset the lives of our children with illness, death, isolation, disruption of routines, academic turmoil, and parental financial hardship. Coined as “Generation C” by many, the president of the American Academy of Pediatrics warns that what started as a public health emergency has become a mental health crisis for children and adolescents. And UNICEF says its data "uncover a devastating and distorted new normal for the world's children." 

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing states, “Seventy-three percent of parents agree COVID-19 has impacted the mental wellbeing of their K-12 children.” (Eighty percent of our 2021 applications were for school-age children, ages 6 to 21.)

Mental Health America ranked Nevada worst in the nation for prevalence of mental illness and low access to care, finding 71% of youth in Nevada who experienced major depressive episodes never got treatment.

Our 2021 Program data certainly support the above statements: our children are suffering, especially psychologically and academically, as evidenced by an 85% increase in our 2021 applications for assistance (29.8% psychological/wellbeing and 17.3% educational). With many families still reeling from economic loss generated by the pandemic, parental financial resources to address the urgent mental health and educational needs of their children simply do not exist.
