Equity Splash

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to build real relationships through connection, collaboration, and education. The work focuses on dismantling and disrupting structural racism and intersecting systems of oppression through leadership development and advocacy for promotion of equity. This body of work analyzes systemic biases though a racial equity lens.

Programming for Equity Splash is focused on:

  • Zenzele Learning Center- Empowerment of Black/BIPOC youth (elementary & middle school) through culturally specific learning and intro to STEM, reading, arts music (RAMM);
  • Mentoring program- High school students assisting with Zenzele Learning Center and Seeds of Equity Community Garden program and leadership development;
  • Houseless Neighbors- Serve/prepare dinner every 2nd Saturday (80 people).
  • New/In Development: Seeds of Equity Community Garden- Introduce STEM education and career readiness for youth (elementary-high school) and adults through gardening;

Equity Splash was founded by and is led by Black community members with existing networks within the Black community in Salem, Oregon. Recruitment has primarily transpired by word of mouth. Additionally, the Salem-Keizer School District has assisted with identification of students who may benefit from the program. By targeting recruitment of students in historically underrepresented groups into a program designed to inspire children to consider roles in high-demand occupations, the hope is to close the gap in representation in these fields.

We have been active in the work of building bridges to create equitable outcomes for marginalized communities. We are committed to the changes necessary so that we all can thrive.
