Scheduled renovation is first step to move downtown

The Children's Museum of Branch County has been working with the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority and the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance to renovate the first floor of the former Taylor's Building for its' new home in downtown Coldwater.  It is a complete renovation of the space and when completed, will be a significant anchor in downtown Coldwater.

After the space is renovated by the DDA, the CMBC is responsible for adding the "finishing touches" including a front counter area, a dedicated STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) room for classes and daily projects, and additional exhibits.

Albert Einstein is credited with the quote, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”  We believe that to be true!  The Children's Museum of Branch County has been a community driven, child-centered space where children EXPLORE, LEARN, and GROW by engaging in interactive play with those who care about them.  Established in 2014 in southern Michigan, the CMBC currently has over 20 exhibits designed to entertain and educate.  One of the core values is education for all with a desired outcome of sparking a passion for lifelong learning.  Conveniently located in Coldwater, Michigan, and the only Children's Museum in a 35-mile radius, the CMBC continues to welcome families from a Tri-State area.

The Children’s Museum of Branch County has spent the past year refreshing current exhibit space and adding new exhibits for young children to enjoy.  “We are excited to have added a Spin Table, River Rock Climbing Wall, Magis Spin Chair, Spectrum Light Lab, interactive Food Truck, Ball Wall, and two exhibits on loan from the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum.  In addition to what we have recently added, we have many more exhibits in the planning stages right now,” said Melissa Austin, Treasurer of the CMBC Board.

Some additional items that are on the exhibit expansion schedule include:

Corn Stalks

New tractor

Air Tubes

Space Capsule

Post Office Building

Bank Building

Grocery Building

New Dental Chair

Airplane Cockpit

Another addition to the museum in 2022 has been THE TOY BOX, the retail store within the museum. "One part of this relocation project that the DDA was very interested in was that we have a retail store within the museum. Most museums have a gift area so this is a great fit for us. We opened THE TOY BOX in our current location to get it established. We are expanding the selection of toys weekly and carry items from infant to upper elementary," said Kayla Gray, CMBC Board President.  Melissa and Doug, HABA, PLUS PLUS, and Fat Brain Toys are just a few of the companies at THE TOY BOX.
