Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Las Cruces Inc

Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico is a faith-based non-profit organization that has been serving the 10 southern counties (approximately 542,086 people) of New Mexico since 2004. It works to address the root causes of poverty, eliminate oppression, and build a more just and compassionate society. We create opportunity and hope by offering assistance to people in need, advocating for human dignity and social justice. Catholic Charities accomplishes this mission with 14 staff members and 40 volunteers who work together to provide: Comprehensive low-cost legal services for immigrants, and many free services for asylum seekers; Economic and Housing Assistance to homeless families and children, and families in need throughout Southern New Mexico; Support for Scholars scholarship program to help homeless high school youth graduate and access higher education; Community organizing of local and migrant farmworkers to be knowledgeable of their rights, learn English, and access medical care. 

We are currently fundraising to support Cultivando Sueños (Cultivating Dreams) - Sustainable Farming Program, a sustainable food and farming co-op in Hatch, NM  to improve the quality of life of farmworkers and their families with a source of healthy food, and the growth of entrepreneurial skills and community leadership. We will provide five acres of irrigated land, tools, and seed necessary to plant and harvest food to nourish their families and sell at a farm stand in Hatch and the Las Cruces farmers market. The dream is to provide farmworkers with a self-sustaining supply of healthy food and profit for their families and community.
