Hope House began as Casa Esperanza in 1965  in a garage apartment in Austin, Texas. It's founder, Rose Mc Garrgile, firmly believed that physically and mentally disabled children, even the most severe, deserve a life free of  institutions, restraints and isolation. She cared for the most severe cases and this is our mission today.

Most of the children who lived at the home over 50 years ago are still here today. We care for 38 severely disabled children and youth in 4 family style homes. They receive 24/7 care of their every need, including clothing, toiletry, bathing and eating. We are their long term, forever family and they can live here as long as they need to.

Hope House is unique to Texas as there are few to no permanent homes that care for the most severely mentally and physically disabled. Their guardians face a wait list that can be well over 10 years long.  More must be done to provide additional homes and care for them.

Hope House relies on the support of caring and concerned groups, companies and foundations to continue its work. You can learn more about us at our website:
