Capital City Pride Des Moines

Since 1978, Capital City Pride has brought together the members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBTQ+) community with their friends, allies, and supporters. The organization holds events that inspire, educate, commemorate, and celebrate the diverse community and culture with and for the greater Des Moines Metro. Our vision is to create a community where the presence and contributions of LGBTQ+ people are welcomed and celebrated; where intolerance is challenged and defeated; where justice prevails; and where civil rights of all people are valued and respected. This is exemplified through a birds-eye view of Pride Fest: flags emblazoned with the iconic Des Moines skyline in rainbow colors fly proudly above a bustling community of all ages and identities celebrating, learning, and connecting together with the Statehouse and historic East Village always in sight.
