What We Want to Do

There is a dangerous misconception that breast cancer doesn’t occur among young women. In fact, in the first six months of this year, people under 35 made up nearly 6% of our clients--it's normally 1-2%.

If you're 35 or older, there are specific programs to cover the costs of mammograms and other tests to catch cancer early. When it comes to cancer care, the earlier the better.

For women who are uninsured in our state, the costs of things like diagnostic mammograms, biopsies and ultrasounds are covered through a state program--as long as you're 35 or older.

A gap in resources exists for women under 35, which is a particularly concerning issue when BCFO is seeing more and more cancer diagnoses in younger and younger clients.

This fundraiser is the first step toward funding a pilot program to cover the costs of diagnosing breast cancer (or even better, not finding it!) for women under 35 in the Springfield area.

Who We Are

Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO) has given help and hope to individuals and families impacted by breast cancer for more than two decades.

Founded by Mary Beth O’Reilly, a breast cancer survivor herself, BCFO seeks to meet the needs of individuals who have experienced a breast cancer diagnosis as well as providing access to individuals needing breast cancer screening. BCFO offers free screening mammograms and non-medical financial support to those facing hardship because of breast cancer in a 37-county region covering Southwest Missouri and parts of Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
