Imagine Asheville with 50,000 more trees in 20 years...
Trees are magical.
They fight climate change by turning carbon dioxide into oxygen. And they reduce the effects of flooding by soaking up rain and holding the soil in place. At home, trees help cut our power bills by blocking out the sun and the wind. And they provide vital habitat for birds and local animals.
Plus, they provide shade, beauty, and a place to play.
Over the last decade, the City of Asheville has lost over 18,000 trees to disease, development, pests, and old age.
In order to move the needle in the other direction, Asheville GreenWorks has committed to a goal of planting 50,000 trees over the next 20 years — that's 2,500 trees per year.
Together, we’ll find innovative ways to meet our city’s diverse needs, while restoring our tree canopy for future generations.
