HISTORY AND FOUNDING STORY

In 2014, in the wake of multiple tragedies tied to youth mental health - suicides, school shootings, eating disorders, and growing despair - Susan Stilwell and her daughter Sydney wanted to do something about it. To their surprise, what they discovered was a dearth of resources and a growing epidemic. So, leveraging their distinct perspectives and united purpose, Susan and Sydney founded AIM Youth Mental Health with a simple yet profound vision: to create a world of mentally healthy youth.

What started as a home-grown (literally) idea, has transformed into a world-class organization converging the greatest minds in the field to tackle the burgeoning youth mental health crisis with innovative and timely solutions.

True to its mission "to build a movement devoted to the mental health of children, teens and young adults," AIM is funding and supporting multiple promising discoveries that are leading to better treatments for youth struggling with their mental health. Through the unparalleled dedication of the AIM Board of Directors, the AIM Scientific Advisory Board, and a growing team of professional staff, AIM’s programs now have the potential to reach every child in the US with equitable access to innovative mental health treatments where and when they need it.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”  Margaret Mead
