The Adoption Authority, Inc. was founded in 2007, by a former foster youth. While working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the Founder worked with clients who were victims of unethical, coercive, and predatory adoption practices. Due to her personal experiences, our Founder felt strongly that there had to be a better way to provide ethical adoption services. The original vision paved the way to Adoption Authority’s unique model of practice, which relies on evidence-based research, elevates the lived experiences of the individuals we serve, seeks solutions, and focuses on the need for stable healthy family systems.

Adoption Authority’s Mission is to promote stability by providing counseling, education and assistance to women, children and families.

We acknowledge the vulnerability of parents in crisis, and we are dedicated to providing compassion, respect, and loving care to each individual on their unique journey. Our services are delivered through five programs.

1) Parent Stability Program- assists parents through the process of creating a solution-focused plan to address identified areas of crisis. Your support will allow us to continue supporting parents on their individualized journey towards self-sufficiency.

2) Adoption Program- provides the services necessary to prepare Hopeful Adoptive Parents to adopt children Privately or through the State Child Welfare Systems.

3) Counseling Program- addresses the unique mental health needs of individuals and families impacted by adoption. Your support will help us increase our capacity to deliver clinical counseling sessions.

4) Post Adoption Program- provides critical support to biological families and adoptive families, as they navigate healthy child-centered open adoption relationships.

5) Transracial Adoption Program aims to meet the needs of children placed with adoptive parents of a different race. Our goal is to help with the racial identity formation of children of color that have been adopted by white parents. Foster and adopted children of color often grow up without people that look like them which leads to issues with identity formation especially racial identity. This program educates hopeful adoptive parents, considering adopting a child of a different race. Adult Transracial Adoptees share their personal experiences and provide adoptive parents with practical advice and guidance that will allow them to parent with an awareness of their child's unique needs, through monthly virtual meetings. Your support will allow us to continue our monthly meetings and expand the program through meaningful mentorship.
