Oasis Center

Oasis Center's Just Us is currently the only intentional positive youth development programming, with full-time staff including a full-time counselor, focusing exclusively on LGBTQ+ youth in the state of Tennessee. Over the past ten years, the program has evolved into a full spectrum of services (e.g., counseling, youth leadership teams, support groups) for LGTBQ+ young people and their families. 

Our young people need us now more than ever. We are seeing heartbreaking numbers of youth who are struggling to find their place in a world that feels so against them. During the past 12 months, 35% of LGBTQ+ Metro Nashville Public Schools' students attempted suicide at least once. At Oasis, 26% of LGBTQ+ youth enrolled in counseling had previously experienced a suicide attempt, and 75% report having considered suicide and/or engaged in self-harm. We simply cannot stand by and let them carry this heaviness alone. It's time to come together as a community.

Our Community Thrives initiative, Just Communities, will help provide the hope and healing our young people so desperately need. Just Communities will help us fund counseling support to provide vital mental health services; it will also allow us to extend trainings to key partners to build responsive, affirming communities.

Just Communities is our chance to ensure that ALL LGBTQ+ youth in the state of Tennessee have safe and affirming environments where they can live authentically and wholly.
