Memphis Library Foundation

A nonprofit organization

100% complete

$6,000 Goal

Since its inception in 1893, Memphis Public Libraries (MPL) has worked tirelessly to improve equitable access to services, provide educational opportunities for all ages and learning levels, and meet the diverse needs of the community.

At the Memphis Library Foundation, we secure financial resources to fund our dynamic and engaging public library system. We support programming, collection enhancement, and building new services. One of the most innovative and utilized spaces in 11 (soon 12!) of our 18 branches are the Teen Innovation Centers.

These are safe spaces for teens to engage, collaborate, and create with each other through STEAM technology, literacy-based programming, and networking.

In fact, it is these Teen Innovation Centers that were featured in the explanations for why our library system won the 2021 National Medal for Museum and Library Science and the Smithsonian Magazine's "Nation's Most Innovative Library."

It is our hope as the Memphis Library Foundation to raise the funds our libraries need in order to bring these opportunities across to the 6 branches that do not yet have specific teen services to help us live up to our egalitarian goals of equal access across our large city.
