About Us: 

    We provide a weekly compost pick-up service to the town of Melbourne Beach, Florida. We also pick-up food waste from businesses outside the town limit. We then process the food waste, carbon, and horse manure into a rich organic soil. We donate soil to local non-profits, like Surfrider, Verdi Eco-school, and Daily Bread Garden which feeds the hungry. We also sell soil for a donation to help with the operating costs.

Accomplishments: 

    In a little over a year in operation, we have picked up over 28,000 lbs of valuable food waste and kept it out of the landfill, preventing 12 tons of CO2 emissions and Capturing over 7 tons of carbon in the soil. The Melbourne Beach town council approved our program in May 2018 by a 5-0 vote and putting composting in their sustainability plan. They have donated gasoline and supplies throughout the year. Town residents have donated over $5,000 as well as Collins Aerospace awarding us a grant for $2500. The town has ended the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the parks and green spaces. It is also budgeting for this net fiscal year to use compost soil instead.

Goals: 

    Dramatically increase our food waste pick up and processing capabilities. Provide more soil to the community. Prevent more CO2 emissions, capture more carbon in the soil. Demonstrating with active gardens the benefits of using compost to grow local nutritious fresh organic vegetables and fruit.

Needs:

    A dependable full size pick up truck for food waste pick-up route. A piece of heavy equipment, small tractor, for turning compost piles and processing compost. Help with our monthly operating budget of $2,600.

Summary:

    Due to our continuous growth of material collected, we have reached a point where we need some heavy equipment to handle the work load and expand to have an even greater impact.
