Making History Happen

Georgia's Old Capital Heritage Center (GOCHC) strives to interpret, preserve, and communicate the artistic and cultural heritage of Milledgeville, Baldwin County, and the region through our museums and educational programs. Throughout the year GOCHC offers opportunities for the community to learn and connect with local history through our programs, educational tours, special events, and new exhibits. We are working to expand these opportunities and offer more ways for both our community and visitors alike to engage with local heritage.

This year, we added more dates of educational tours at Central State Hospital and of our free Evenings with History lecture series. We initiated Voices of Heritage to showcase local black history and History After Hours to highlight our museums in a social setting. We have also begun bringing our museum experiences to a wider audience through digital history initiative. And we are just getting started! 

Your support on Giving Tuesday will help GOCHC:

(1) Develop engaging history programs, guided tours, presentations, and hands-on learning experiences that make local and regional history meaningful for visitors of all ages. 

(2) Expand educational programs with more lectures, workshops, and tours for students, families, and lifelong learners that bring people together through learning, conversation, and discovery.

(3) Build on our existing museum exhibits and events to share more stories about the people and experiences that have shaped Central State Hospital, Baldwin County and the entire Oconee River Basin. There are thousands of stories waiting to be told.

(4) Keep opportunities to engage with local history accessible through free and low-cost programs.
